WISHMASTER: PROPHECY FULFILLED (2002)

Directed by Chris Angel

Starring John Novak and Tara Spencer-Nairn

"Wishmaster 3" was a fun direct-to-video film with a Highlander-like spirit to it. Given its insanely low budget, it was a solid little effort, helped by the presence of Sean Connery's son Jason in the starring role as the evil Djinn out to extract wishes from unsuspecting college student mortals.

Unfortunately, the fourth entry in the franchise shows that the formula is getting tired. Perhaps the problem is that the budget of "Prophecy Fulfilled" is even lower than that of Part 3, if that were possible. It leaves director Angel (who also did Part 3) with little to do in the film other than show a bunch of good looking young actors chattering like they're on the set of a soap opera. Things get a little more interesting when a strange sword-wielding angel or demon or something shows up searching for the Djinn, chopping the head off a store clerk that gets in his way.

This time around, the Djinn takes over the body of a young good-looking lawyer, and he needs to make a young woman fall in love with him to unleash the gates of hell. Or something. The clever play off on wishes that made Parts 1-3 interesting doesn't really work in this movie. There are precious little makeup effects, but plenty of breasts to try and make up for it. Ultimately, "Prophecy Fulfilled" is a destined-to-be-forgotten snoozer that isn't worthy of even the most desperate horror movie fan's time. Pass.
