WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE (1994)
Starring Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund Amazing, over-the-top climax to the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series, featuring most of the original actors and actresses of the original film playing themselves in modern-day L.A. Langenkamp, John Saxon, Englund and even Wes Craven himself star, as the cast and crew working on the latest Elm Street picture. Langenkamp, however, suspects that both she and her young son (played by Mike Hughes, remembered as Gage Creed from "Pet Semetery") may be going insane. Either that, or Krueger has somehow gotten out of the movies and into our world. Langenkamp turns to Englund for help after her make-up artist husband is killed, apparently by Krueger. She also interacts with friend John Saxon, although Johnny Depp, who landed his first film role in the original movie, doesn't even make a cameo. Finally, she confronts Wes Craven himself, who gives her a script he's been working on, one that mirrors everything that she's been going through. It's a daring thinking man's horror movie. For Craven, it set the stage for him to direct the landmark post-modern fear flick "Scream," another social commentary horror pic.
