TWO EVIL EYES (1990)
Starring Harvey Keitel and Adrienne Barbeau
Pretty interesting film for genre fans, "Two Evil Eyes" consists of two stories based on tales by Edgar Allen Poe: one directed by American horror master Romero, the other by Italian terror maestro Argento. The two men had worked together previously on the splatter classic "Dawn of the Dead," for which Argento served as a creative advisor. Originally John Carpenter and Wes Craven were to have contributed stories, but they backed out.
The two short films don't stack up as either directors' best. Romero's piece stars Barbeau as the wife of a man on his deathbed. After having him hypnotized to sign all of his money over to her, he dies and becomes stuck between the world of the living and the dead. Of course, he wants revenge. Suspenseful and well-written, it's a decent effort by Romero, based on the Poe mood piece "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar."
Argento's short film, entitled "The Black Cat," stars Keitel as a forensic photographer who can't get rid of his girlfriend's pussy, no matter how hard he tries to kill it. Some of the death scenes Keitel shoots as a photographer were designed by make-up expert Tom Savini. It's the superior of the two tales because it remains the most faithful to the original Poe story.
Pretty decent film overall and not hard to find.
