THINNER (1996)
Starring Robert John Burke and Joe Mantegna Despite the fact that it was directed by the talented Tom Holland ("Child's Play," "Fright Night"), this is a weak adaptation of the Stephen King novel (which he wrote under the name Richard Bachman). While driving, an overweight attorney (Burke) receives a blow-job from his wife. Nice wife. Then he accidentally hits and kills a gypsy girl in the road. Damn. When he uses his connections to get a slap on the wrist from a local judge, the girl's gypsy father puts a hex on him by saying "thinner." Holy smoke! Suddenly, the attorney finds himself rapidly losing weight. When he realizes he's suffering from a curseand will soon waste away to the point of deathhe enlists an organized Mafioso he defended in court (Mantegna) to force the gypsy to remove the curse. It has a great story, but it doesn't translate well onto the screen. Too bad King didn't write the screenplay himself, although he naturally has a cameo in the flick. All in all, the film isn't up to par with Holland's earlier work, which included "Psycho 2" (as a writer). Mildly worth seeing.
