SLEEPAWAY CAMP II: UNHAPPY CAMPERS (1988)

Directed by Michael A. Simpson

Starring Pamela Springsteen and Renee Estevez

Angela (Springsteen), the psycho who turned out to be a boy in the "twist" ending of Part 1, has been released from an asylum, had a sex change operation and has been hired as a camp counselor (!).

Yeah, right.

In any case, she's a real bitch of a counselor, obsessed with "weeding out" bad kids.

The girls camping in this film are pretty mature—old enough to romp around topless for every other scene. Thank the Lord for small favors.

Of course, Angela kills the "bad kids." She starts by cutting out the tongue of one girl who dared tell a campfire story about the massacre from the first film. She eliminates the rest via knife, chainsaw and fire. The film is actually technically better than the first movie—superior to many "Friday the 13th" films.

Interesting aside: Walter Gotell, who played the Russian General Gogol in a number of Roger Moore James Bond films, has a part as one of the counselors. Yet another sequel was released the same year: "Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland."
