REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1958)

Directed by Terence Fisher

Starring Peter Cushing and Francis Matthews

Incredibly kick-ass direct sequel to the first Hammer Frankie film, "Curse of Frankenstein", this is actually better than the film that preceded it.

At the end of "Curse", Frankenstein looked certain to die, with a gullotine rising in the background and him being led by a priest to his execution. Thankfully, he figured out a clever way to avoid the punishment.

After moving to a new town and operating under the name "Dr. Stein", he begins setting up a new experiment, this time with a hunchback volunteer who`s willing to have his brain transplanted into the body of a tall patchwork man. Things get interesting when another local doctor (Francis Matthews) realizes who "Dr. Stein" really is and subtly blackmails him in order to become his pupil. Things get even more interesting when the brain transplant experiment goes horribly wrong and Frank`s new creation turns out to be a cannibal!

Highly entertaining, skillfully written and directed, "Revenge" is a lot more fun than "Curse of Frankenstein" and is arguably the best in the entire Hammer Frankenstein series, although "Frankenstein Created Woman" comes pretty darn close.

It was followed by one of the weakest films: "The Evil of Frankenstein".
