PROPHECY II (1998)
Starring Christoper Walken and Russell Wong Decent follow-up to 1995's "The Prophecy" has the Angel Gabriel (Walken) brought out of hell to carry on his war against God's angels. Like the first, it's an interesting movie, particularly if you're into religion. Gabriel's in agony because he's lost contact with God and jealous of the entire human race for being created and loved by Him. Walken is wonderful in this role. Gabriel is a troubled, tough, charismatic bad guy. I love the scene where Gabriel tells a victim it's "nothing personal." He's like a Mafioso with wings. The film also features a love scene between the Angel Danyael (Wong) and the female, human love interest of the film (Jennifer Beals) who gets tied up in the ongoing angel war. As many of you Bible scholars out there already know, angels shagged earth women before the Great Flood. More than the original, this film focuses a lot on the religious elements of the story. Pretty cool film, especially for young Bible thumpers. |
