PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1990)
Starring Lance Henricksen and Stephen Lee I'm a big fan of the Vincent Price/Roger Corman movie of the same name (which isn't listed here because it ain't a splatter movie), so I'm biased against this direct-to-video feature, even though it has nudity, gore and was directed by Gordon, one of splatterdom's all time greatest filmmakers. Henricksen stars as Torquemada, who's in charge of torturing witches during the Spanish Inquisition. Jeffrey Combs (who was Herbert West in "Re-Animator") has a small role in this picture, which owes more to "Mark of the Devil" than Edgar Allen Poe. Best thing about it, however, might be appearance of Oliver Reed toward the end, although it may just make you yearn to see the similar (but superior) "The Devils," featuring Reed as a priest accused of witchcraft. |
