Big improvement over the second film in the series still doesn't match the brilliance of the first. But you can't have everything.
It picks up where the second film left off and Coscarelli wisely kills off a lame, psychic girl character needlessly introduced in Part 2. Baldwin also returns to his rightful place as the actor playing Mike, protagonist from the first two movies. Both he and his buddy Reggie (another good guy from Parts 1 and 2) once again go after the Tall Man and find him in a town where he's managed to completely wipe out almost all the inhabitants.
They hook up with a few survivors and once again do battle with the Tall Man, some zombies and those great brain-sucking, flying balls that we all know and love.
Worth catching, especially if you're a fan of the legendary first film. It was enough of a success that still yet another sequel was made.
