NIGHTMARE (1981) Directed by Romano Scavolini Starring Baird Stafford and Sharon Smith Worthless horror film about a killer on the loose. The only memorable thing about this movie are the impressive gore effects at the end which were handled by make-up maestro Tom Savini. But Savini didn't want his name on the credits of this film and there was apparently a legal battle to have it removed. This was shortly after the horror film "Maniac" had been released and many people had derided Savini for having anything to do with it. "Nightmare" is almost as sick as "Maniac" and was released at a time when people were seriously wondering where the whole horror genre was going. Like "Maniac," the film is basically just porn for gore fans, with the camera leering over the death scenes. Savini's name was removed, but I've seen photographs of him working on the set of the movie, so he was definitely involved in the project. The movie has an absolutely laughable "twist" ending.
