THE NIGHT FLIER (1998)

Directed by Mark Pavia

Starring Miguel Ferrer and Julie Entwisle

Awesome! This is exactly the kind of horror film we should have been seeing more of in the 1990s. Unfortunately, this film headed straight to video and didn't get near the attention it deserved. Miguel Ferrer (Albert from the TV series "Twin Peaks") is great as a sleazy tabloid journalist on the trail of a "night flier"—a caped killer who flies into airports and murders people, apparently sucking out their blood.

The first two-thirds of this movie are entertaining enough. It's fun to watch Ferrer playing an absolute ass—the role he almost always plays in all his movies. But it's the last third of this film, where Ferrer finally comes face to face with the night flier and is literally shown what hell looks like, that really pays off.

The film has one of the most frightening endings I've seen in a film since the original "Vanishing." The movie kicks ass.

Based on a short story by Stephen King, it's one of the best films ever to have the horror writer's name on it.
