THE MANGLER (1995)
Starring Robert Englund and Ted Levine This is one of the worst movies ever made. It's hard to believe that the man behind "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" had anything to do with this, but it's true. Englund plays a Scrooge-like company owner who doesn't seem to care that a machine in his industrial laundry is chewing people up. In one memorably lame scene, police officer and good guy Levine pukes once he gets a sight of the bodies. Turns out the machine is demon possessed and it's up to Levine to exorcise them. When I saw this in a divey theater, I complained to the manager afterwards. He agreed it sucked and gave me my money back. That's how bad it is. Ineptly acted and photographed, based on a short story by Stephen King, this film is so bad it's frankly amazing it was ever made. King should have sued to have his name removed from the project, like he did with the far superior (but still god-awful) "Lawnmower Man." Hooper and Englund previously worked together on the infinitely superior "Eaten Alive." |
