LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD (2000) Directed by Rob SperaStarring Warwick Davis and Ice-T Surprisingly good entry in the normally god-awful Leprechaun series is made all the merrier by being set in a Los Angeles ghetto. The blaxploitation comedy spoofs everything from "Shaft" to "Boyz n the Hood" and the presence of Ice-T, cast as an evil rap music mogul, almost gives it an air of respectability. Three wanna-be rappers are desperate for money to buy equipment for a Las Vegas contest. After being rejected by label head Ice-T, they decide to rob his apartment, only to discover hidden treasure and a frozen statue of the Leprechaun. In this entry in the series, the Leprechaun has a magic flute, which can enable the user to hypnotize anyone. Theres also a golden charm that turns the Leprechaun into a statue. Naturally, the charm is removed from the Leprechaun, setting him free, and the three rappers attempt to use the flute to get a real music career going. Some of the stand-out lines include one delivered by the Lep after being unfrozen for the first time: "Free at last, thank God almighty Im free at last." Theres plenty of other tasteless jokes in this movie, easily the best in the entire Leprechaun series and one of the funniest horror films in years. Yo, homies. Go check it out.
