Starring Lesley Gilb and Cheryl Smith Atmospheric, but dated, cult fave about a naive teen (Smith) who goes looking for her gangster father, whose fallen victim to a the lady vampire Lemora (Gilb) in 1930s America. Director Blackburn plays a priest who's enraptured by Smith's beautiful singing voice and who attempts to rescue her from the demonic charms of Lemora. One of the film's stand-out scenes takes place when Lemora, riding alone at night in a bus en route to her father, watches in horror as an army of ghouls emerge from the swamp and drag the bus driver away. A cult fave among fans of 1970s schlock, "Lemora" isn't for all tastes. It's a bit slow, but nonetheless delivers some amazing atmosphere. The fact that it is so difficult to find has only increased its desirability among cult fans. San Francisco Bay Area horror fans should also find it noteworthy as the very last movie shown on the legendary nighttime horror show hosted by John Stanley, "Creature Features," which ran on KTVU Channel 2 in San Francisco for over a decade, before the station pulled the plug on the program in the mid-1980s. |
