IT LIVES AGAIN (1978)
Starring John Ryan and Frederic Forrest Ryan returns as the father of a now-deceased monster baby. He's determined to help out other parents whose babies have come out similarly deformed and homicidal. Some consider this film superior to its predecessor, "It's Alive." Cohen had more time to flesh out his script to tackle the abortion issue. The government has figured out which babies are going to come out deformed and dangerous and are demanding that the parents of these monsters have abortions. Others see the killer infants as part of an evolutionary process that could spell progress for the entire species. Rick Baker returned to provide the monster baby effects and Bernard Herrmann's score from the first film was adapted for this one. (The composer had already died, just after supplying the music for Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver.") All in all, "It Lives Again," like its predecessor, is a must-see movie for any fan of splatter schlock. Followed by a third entry in the series, "Island of the Alive." |
