I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1998)
Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. After the success of "Scream," scribe Kevin Williamson refused to pen the sequel to his horror hit, "I Know What You Did Last Summer." But that didn't stop producers from swiftly cranking out a superior follow-up to the teen slasher film. Jennifer Love Hewittt returns as as the regretful witness of a fatal car accident. When she and a few teeny-bopper friends ran over a man, the drunk driver who was behind the wheel urges them to cover it up. A year later, all but Hewitt were murdered by a madman. Now, yet another year later, she attempts to overcome some of the paranoia she developed from the events in the first film, leaves college for a brief a Caribbean vacation with her roommate, only to discover that the killer came along for the trip. Despite the formidable task of making a follow-up to the first film, director Cannon and writer Trey Callaway were able to come up with a sequel full of enough Hitchcockian thrills and mystery to guarantee that the newly revived teeny-bopper slasher genre will be alive and kicking for some time to come. Jeffrey Combs, of "Re-Animator" fame, has a small part as a hotel manager with an attitude problem. The ever-versatile Hewitt performed the movie's theme song and will no doubt be back for another sequel. |
