INSEMINOID (1981)

Directed by Norman Warren

Starring Judy Geeson and Robin Clarke

Really, really, really low budget British sci-fi film, this story takes place aboard a spaceship. But the filmmakers had no money, so the crew are shown using desk phones to communicate across the ship. The sets feature what looks like tin foil, and the crew wears what looks like casual early 1980s street clothes.

Made clearly to cash in on the "Alien," craze, "Inseminoid" is another sci-fi horror film that revolves around rape by an alien being. The same thing happened to much sleazier (and greater) effect in "Galaxy of Terror," not to mention "Progeny" and "Xtro." Here, the victim is played by Geeson, who after being impregnated by an alien on a strange planet becomes pregnant – not to mention homicidal. She kills members of the crew at random, becomes pale and evil-looking, and is an overall menace to anyone who comes into contact with her. Inevitably, the baby comes out, and you can guess what that's like.

One of the worst of the early '80s Alien clones films, "Inseminoid" had a weak story to begin with. The infinitesimal budget only added insult to the injury. The film has somehow managed to make its way to DVD. Despite its cool title, you'll probably want to avoid this one. It doesn't even stack up as a "so bad it's good" oddity. It was written by Nick Maley, who also did make-up effects for the sleazy "Lifeforce" from 1985.
