HOWLING 2 (1985)

Directed by Phillippe Mora

Starring Christopher Lee and Sybil Danning

Lee was horribly, horribly wasted in this film. He hadn't been in a real horror film for so long, and fans were naturally hoping that this "sequel" to the classic early '80s lycanthrope film from Joe Dante would be a real Lee movie. Unfortunately, the script, the effects, the acting, everything about this picture, in fact, is so awful that it degraded Lee to even set foot on the set. Director Mora did helm the decent "Communion" with Christopher Walken and the fantastic "Beast Within." But Lord only knows what he was thinking when he put together this heap.

It's hard to tell if this film is even really a sequel to the first movie. As we all remember, the newscaster played by Dee Wallace in that film turns into a werewolf live on TV before being shot. In this film, the brother of a former TV anchor newswoman, who was killed on TV while turning into a werewolf, teams up with Lee, a werewolf hunter, to look for the lycanthropes responsible for his sister's condition. If the dead newscaster is supposed to be the same character, it certainly doesn't come across. The footage from the newsroom is totally different, and while the first "Howling" boasted terrific effects during this scene, in this movie it looks like a woman wearing a Halloween werewolf mask.

Lee and his new supporters head to Transylvania in search of werewolves. It appears that Sybil Danning is leading a cult of werewolves in a castle out there. Horny men should be pretty excited to learn that Sybil Danning does get topless for a millisecond or two during a werewolf lovemaking scene. But let's just say the scene sounds a lot better than it really is.

There are plenty of stories about how disastrous this movie was. Apparently, the original author of the "Howling" novels
