THE HOUSE THAT VANISHED (1973)

Directed by Jose Larraz

Starring Maggie Walker and Peter Forbes-Robertson

A lesser offering from Larraz, the filmmaker best known for delivering the world "Vampyres," the all-time lesbian vampire film classic. Larraz also made a nice little movie entitled "Deviation." Tragically you won`t find that movie in video stores. This, however, was released once by Media and may show up in older rental shops. It was released to some theaters as "Scream and Die."

A London model (played by sexy Judy Matheson who also turned up in "Twins of Evil" and "Lust for a Vampire") goes on a shooting expedition with a strange photographer. The two wind up in an old mansion where they witness a brutal murder. She escapes, but her photographer friend is left behind. She gets back to London, where friends advise her not to call the police and tell her not to worry about the fate of the weirdo who wanted to take shots of her.

When strange things start happening around her London flat, including the murder of her roommate, she figures she`s been followed by the owner of the mansion. Meanwhile a strange bird collector moves into the flat below her. She also falls in love with a young man who`s having an incestuous relationship with his aunt.

Basically, the film lacks much of a plot and it`s clear who the killer is the second he pops up on screen. But if you`re into Euro trash and naked women, this might be a nice afternoon delight for you. As usual, Larraz doesn`t hold back on the nudity. Like his other films, this one is interesting because it`s filmed in Britain, but it has a Spaniard`s sense of sensuality and perversion.

But don`t expect a particularly memorable horror film watching experience with this one. If you haven`t seen "Vampyres" yet, you should probably prioritize watching that.
