HAUNTED (1995)
Starring Aidan Quinn and Kate Beckinsale This excellent haunted house movie tragically didn't receive a theatrical release in the U.S., despite the fact that Francis Ford Coppola was its executive producer. The film wound up on the direct-to-video dung heap. Too bad. It's one of the best gothic horror films ever made. Quinn plays a researcher who specializes in debunking claims of the paranormal. When he's called to England to investigate a nanny's allegations that her current home is haunted, he naturally encounters more than he bargained for. It wouldn't be fair to give away any more of the story, but despite what at first seems like pretty familiar territory for a horror film fan, the pic features plenty of surprises. With a big name in the cast, it would have done great in the U.S. box office, but Quinn isn't a big name, despite being a fine actor. See this movie, particularly if you're a fan of haunted house classics such as 1961's "The Innocents." |
