DEMONS 2 (1986)

Directed by Lamberto Bava

Starring David Edwin Knight and Nancy Brilli

"Demons" was a huge hit both for writer Dario Argento and director Bava, so the two reteamed and immediately cranked out this inferior sequel, which nonetheless manages to recapture some of the thrills from the Part 1.

Flick is basically just a replay of the first film, with the demons possessing residents of a health spa/apartment complex through a TV broadcast. Survivors are left fighting for their lives as they watch their neighbors become murderous monsters. The film also features some of the same cast from Part 1. One memorable scene has a woman turn into a demon at her own birthday party, killing off some guests, turning others into demon-possessed maniacs. A dog even transforms into a demon.

It's too bad that Argento and Bava didn't decide to follow up the first film with a real sequel. It would've been fun to see what the world was like after it was taken over by demons. Unfortunately, this follow-up has nothing to do with Part 1. It's mainly just a re-tread. There are some incredible moments, particularly one slow motion demon rampage featuring the music of the goth group Dead Can Dance.

Not bad.
