THE GORE GORE GIRLS (1972)
Starring Frank Kress and Amy Farrell "We'll show those striptease bitches what we think!" With this unforgettable line, an army of feminists storm the stage of a go-go bar, waving signs that read slogans like "Quit with Tit" in H.G. Lewis' exquisitely atrocious "mystery" about a serial killer massacring go-go dancers. Kress is splendidly awful as a snot-nosed private eye who is wooed into investigating the murders by a news reporter who offers him $25,000 to do the job. The killer, in typical Lewis fashion, carves up the victims in an orgy of blood and grade-Z make-up effects Lewis is a master at making bad movies and at finding the worst actors to fill his roles, and this film is no exception. With less-than-subtle digs at feminists and a ludicrous "twist" ending that ranks as one of the most laughable ever filmed, "The Gore Gore Girls" is a riot.Still, the pic is not as funny (or even as gory) as some of Lewis' earlier efforts, most notably "Blood Feast" and "2,000 Maniacs," but it delivers. It was also Lewis' swan song as a horror director. A must-see for any bad movie fan.
