THE FURY (1978)
Starring Kirk Douglas and Amy Irving After striking it big with one psychic flick, the kick-ass "Carrie," De Palma followed up with this weak film about a secret U.S. agency that trains psychic kids to become killers. Douglas plays an ex-CIA agent whose son has been kidnapped by the agency because of his psychic abilities. It's as dull as a TV movie, except for one kick-ass scene at the end where John Cassavettes' entire body explodesa must-see moment in film history. It was done more than a year before "Scanners" wowed America with an exploding head. This scene is even more gut-wrenching (no pun intended) and is accompanied by symphonic, climactic music from John Williams of "Star Wars" fame.
