FAUST (2001)

Directed by Brian Yuzna

Starring Jeffrey Combs and Andrew Divoff

A real piece of shit, this is Yuzna's worst movie to date. It looked like Yuzna was on a winning streak, directing "Progeny," and "The Dentist" parts 1 and 2 all in a row - all of them great horror films. How he managed to lay this turd is beyond me. One can only assume he bit off more than he could chew and was just barely able to finish the film with the money he had. The plot makes no sense, the effects stink, the characters suck and … well, you get the idea.

Based on a comic book, the story follows the adventures of an artist (Mark Frost) who attempts suicide after a bunch of gangsters kill his girlfriend. He's intercepted by a wealthy satanist named "M" (Divoff) who, after a lengthy discussion about spirituality, convinces him not to jump. The artist gives up his soul to the devil in exchange for the chance to avenge his girl. After killing the gangsters using a set of Wolverine-like blades that M game him, the artist has sex with M's girlfriend. Then is sent on a job to assassinate a group of delegates at an embassy. When he fails to complete the task, Divoff becomes enraged and sends him to hell. But somehow, instead of going to hell, he becomes a superhero-like demon that gets off on battling Divoff, who's trying to spark some kind of satanic overthrow of the earth or something.

The film is a mess. A couple of interesting Yuzna-esque moments are here, including a satanic orgy at the end of the film (a little reminiscent of his film "Society") and a scene where Divoff uses his satanic power to transform an unruly female follower into a heap of fat. But they're still not even worth the rental price.

Steer clear from this turkey.
