DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (1997)
Starring Keanu Reaves and Al Pacino Fantastic horror film, starring Reaves as a young defense lawyer who, after successfully getting an acquittal for a child molester he knows is guilty, is snatched up by a New York law firm led by a mysterious and extremely wealthy lead attorney (Pacino). In New York, he starts defending rich scum, accused of everything from murder to animal sacrifice. When his beautiful wife (Charlize Theron) starts going mad and seeing monstersand one of his partners in the firm is murdered by demon-possessed bumshe begins to wonder if there's more to this firm than meets the eye. He and his wife appear to have everythingfrom an excellent apartment, where they live with all the other partners of the firm to a fat paycheckbut Reeves' Bible-thumping mother wonders if there isn't something mildly satanic about the whole situation. Nightmares, incest, rape, the supernatural, politicsit's all here, stylishly delivered by director Hackford in a 144-minute movie that feels like it's an hour and a half. I don't want to reveal any more of this movieit's that good.vImpeccably acted, directed, written, scored and with top-notch, yet subtle, monster effects by Rob Bottin, this is a must-see for horror and non-horror fans alike. Even gore hounds won't be disappointed. Theron definitely and thoroughly gets naked, along with Danish hottie Connie Nielsen. Woo! |
