CUBE (1997)

Pretty kick-ass, Canadian sci-fi flick, replete with gore, bad acting and about all the drama you can pack into a flick filmed almost entirely in a single room.
Six characters wake up wearing uniforms in a strange glowing room, wondering how the hell they got there. It's the same concept used in "Five Characters in Search of an Exit," a great "Twilight Zone" episode from way back. Like the "Zone" series, this film doesn't have much of a budget, so it relies entirely on story to deliver the goods. It works, although some of the acting could have been better.
With grant money from the Canadian government, director Natali did get enough money for a few gore scenes, including one where a character is sliced into hundreds of pieces by a high-tech booby trap. Very reminiscent of something you'd see in a "Hellraiser" movie. Recommended.
