BLUE SUNSHINE (1977)
Starring Zalman King and Deborah Wintres Excellent cult flick that just barely qualifies as a horror film. An underground drug known as Blue Sunshine is turning ordinary, 1970s yuppies into murderersbut not until it causes their hair to fall out. Zalman King plays the good guy who catches on to the crisis and realizes a local politician may be involved in dealing the drug. The movie opens up with shots of the moon and a series of apparently unrelated scenes involving characters whose hair is falling out. Things start to get interesting at a party, where one party-goer goes mad when his wig is accidentally removed to reveal a grotesquely bald head. From there, the film continues a little bit like "Rabid," making the movie more than little reminiscent of the early work of David Cronenberg -- and it's almost better, although the end of the film is something of a letdown.Lieberman is best known for directing "Squirm," and was working on another fear film in 2003. |
