BLOOD RELATIONS (1988) Directed by Graeme Campbell Starring Jan Rubes and Lydie Denier Cool, gothic horror film with Rubes as a gold digger who falls in love with a young rich man, only to get wrapped up in a series of soap opera-like plots to get her hands on the money of his dying grandfather (Ray Walston), a brain surgeon with a heart condition. Walston is great as the classy and sadistic patriarch of the family. Although the film stars off pretty slow with a lot of sex to liven things up, coming across as a lowbudget Harold Robbins adaptation, the gruesome revelation at the film's disturbing and satisfying ending more than makes up for it. This film doesn't disappoint, believe me. The acting and over-the-top finish are almost enough to make this a must-see. As it stands I can only say I'd recommend it. If the storyline had been more believable and offered up a little bit more action at the beginning, the film could have been a modern classic. Faults aside, it is definitely superior to most of the horror that's being produced these days.
