THE BLACK CAT (1980)
Starring Patrick Magee and Mimsy Farmer Fulci's third film after "Zombie," "The Black Cat" is loosely based on the Egdar Allen Poe of the same name and, for the first 30 minutes or so, exhibits the exploitation sleaze we expect from the Italian "godfather of gore." The film opens with bizarre killings taking place in a small British community. The murders take place from the point of view of a small animal, which, in one sleazy scene, steals the keys of a boat-house from a pair of naked lovers, locking them inside. Somehow the two suffocate in the room, foamy goop oozing out of their mouths. |
