An average direct-to-video horror film, "Timber Falls" is often pegged as another "torture porn" film and it looks that way from the opening few moments. But it's really another fear-of-rednecks-in-the-woods movie. In this case, the evil rednecks are rabid Christians who kill off couples that mke love in the woods.
Randall and Brown are a young couple heading from the city for a weekend of camping in the woods. They don't seem concerned of the "missing" sign of another young couple in the local ranger's office. (We see what happened to them in the film's opening minutes.)
Heading out for a stroll, they run across a friendly, cross-bearing woman () who recommends they take the trail called "Timber Falls" for its remoteness and gorgeous waterfall views. Along the way, they stop on the side of the trail for some lovemaking, only to be bullied by gun-toting would-be-rapist redneck hunters who rob them. Then, it's up the mountain further for more lovemaking.
When Brown goes skinny dipping without her boyfriend in the morning, she is naturally kidnapped by a mongoloid redneck -- the worst of the bunch. In his search for her, boyfriend Randall gets trapped by a bear trap and is seemingly rescued by churchgoer Broderick -- only to discover that things have gone from bad to worse.
Well acted and very well photographed, "Timber Falls" is just a bit too unbelievable in its opening one third. After being harassed by the hunters, the couple would have turned tailed and gone back to the ranger's station. Even more unbelievable, the girlfriend insists that her partner get rid of the gun in his backpack! What?
After "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake, we know what to expect when it comes to apparent law enforcement officers in redneck communities. And sure enough the town sherriff is in with the bad guys who have some plot involving punishing unmarried couples, then using them to create a baby or something like that. The mutant son hangs around, a throwaway character inserted to make the film look more like a horror movie than a dull "thriller".
Things get especially slow during the last third of the film, when some new ranger characters are introduced to conduct a search for the missing couple. All in all, a pretty dull affair.
All in all, a pretty decently done film but nothing to write home about. Worth renting, perhaps, if you run across it at your videostore and you've seen everything else.
I agree with the I agree with the poulan chaansiw comment but dont agree with the Husqvarna comment. Now i have a tree service and i have both Stihl and Husqvarna. even tho the Stihl has more power i find that after 10 yrs of working Hurricanes the Husqvarna always started up easier. after working 10 hour days 7 days a week i dont wanna be trying to start my saw i wanna start my saw. Stihl saws are temper mental!!! I still love Stihl saws but who can afford them! To be honest!!!
