Cat O' Nine Tails (1971)
Directed by Dario Argento

Starring Catherine Spaak James Franciscus Karl Malden Pier Paolo Capponi

An odd thriller from Dario Argento featuring James Franciscus as a reporter and Karl Malden as a blind crossword puzzle writer (eh?) who team up to solve a series of gruesome murders. Like many Argernto's other thrillers, as soon as one of the secondary characters in the story comes close to uncovering the killer they immediately become the next victim.

While not considered one of Argento's best, the film is clever and stylish enough to entertain most fans of the genre. Nice camerawork and a jazzy Ennio Morricone score help to keep things interesting. Not nearly as graphic as most subsequent Italian horror thrillers from the late 70's and early 80's, this film is still usually censored for TV and at least one of the US video releases is this toned down version.
