Progeny (1968)
Directed by Brian Yuzna

Starring Arnold Vosloo Jillian McWhirter

Vooslo is an impotent doctor who has strange dreams about alien abductions of his wife (McWhirther). When she becomes pregnant, he becomes suspicious that what’s growing inside her is not of this world.

His wife seems to be losing her mind, while Vooslo isn’t sure if he isn’t losing his. His psychiatrist is especially worried about him. This is a damn fine film, combing the best elements of the alien abductee genre with the monster infant genre—kind of a cross between "The X Files" and "Rosemary’s Baby".

Unfortunately, "Progeny" was released a little too long after the "X-Files" and UFO crazes swept America. Still, there are some genuine moments of real horror in this film. The acting is good (particularly by Brad Dourif as a crackpot UFO expert), Yuzna’s direction is fine and the effects are marvelous and often horrifying. It’s a damn fine horror film. Here’s hoping Yuzna makes more.

An interesting factoid worth noting: Gorgeous McWhirther also had a role in Yuzna’s "Dentist 2.”
