Vampira R.I.P.    Share

January 11, 2008 The world's first horror movie TV host passed away Jan. 10.

For those of us who were introduced through horror via TV shows hosted by notable personalities (especially Elvira, but even John Stanley and Bob Wilkins of "Creature Features" fame), we all owe a debt of gratitude to "Vampira" who was the very first host.

Maila Nurmi (born December 21, 1921) created the 1950s character of Vampira, the first TV horror host. She later had a role in "Plan 9 From Outer Space."

Her official site can be found here.
