January 14, 2011 This news just broke from Deadline: Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel is now being called "Prometheus" and may not have anything to do with the Alien.

Deadline is reporting that the film has a March 9, 2012 release date, is set to star Noomi Rapace of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" fame and may feature Angelina Jolie. But it's going off in an "original direction" and apparently won't be a prequel. Read the report for more.

My own take is a sci-fi film set in the "Alien" universe is a welcome idea. But it probably won't be a horror film without H.R. Giger's Alien bursting out of chests and running amok.
