One of the best horror films of the 1970s, "Blood on Satan's Claw" has never had a proper DVD release -- anywhere. The only one it ever got was overseas and it was non-anamorphic widescreen. Weak! Well, it looks like UK DVD maker Odeon is working on a new transfer, which means hopefully a proper Anamorphic widescreen release of this excellent, unjustly unreleased -- in the U.S. release -- horror masterpiece.
Odeon is also releasing the excellent "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors" on March 22. This has been available in the past, but it's great to see it getting another release. Hopefully "Satan's Claw" will rival the treatment "Dr. Terror" has received on DVD releases in the recent past -- i.e., widescreen anamorphic.
And hopefully someone will release "Satan's Claw" here in the U.S. That doesn't sound terribly likely, given that the rights of this film have been tied up with MGM, a company which is now out of money and desperately looking for a buyer. Heck, MGM can't even release James Bond films on Blu-Ray right now they are so paralyzed. So we obviously can't hold our breath for "Satan's Claw" -- or the myriad of other classic horror titles they own the rights to. But at least we'll be able to score an anamorphic British version on Ebay soon.
