AMC has greenlit the pilot for Frank Darabont's "The Walking Dead," a new living-dead-zombie live-action TV series that will air on the same network as "Mad Men."
Here's EW's report on the matter:
AMC announced plans today to build on the success of Mad Men and Breaking Bad by developing dramas based on the comic book series The Walking Dead and another inspired by the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen called The Killing. Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) will write, direct and executive produce the previously announced The Walking Dead, which follows a group of survivors after a zombie apocalypse ...
Zombies are obviously hot, perhaps too hot, these days. But Darabont's "The Mist" was such an excellent movie, it will be interesting to see how he tackles a zombie show. I suppose if the pilot doesn't lead to a full on series, it will simply wind up as a direct-to-DVD movie. The new series is based on a comic that has been published since 2003.
