We've got five copies of the Lionsgate release of the UNCUT and UNCENSORED '80s horror classic "My Bloody Valentine" to give away.
What's so special about this DVD? Well, I'll tell you a personal story:
I can remember way back in the early '80s when Fangoria profiled "My Bloody Valentine" and every teenager I knew at the Mormon school I was attending was positively blown away by the gore scenes from the film. Then, it finally came out on VHS and the giant sucking sound we all heard was our grave disappointment at the goreless film unspooling on our square TVs. "Valentine" had been gouged -- plus, the movie was simply bad. Dull. It's remained in print on VHS or DVD ever since it seems like.
Then, in 2009, it finally makes its way to DVD again -- this time uncut courtesy of Lionsgate Entertainment, which is also releasing the 3-D remake this week. Well, all I can say is -- it was well worth the wait.
Basically, seeing the original film with all its gore scenes cut was like watching an H.G. Lewis with all the gore cut. There is simply no "there" there with out the gore. The gore scenes are pretty shocking, they're seamlessly re-added to the film, and adding to their eeriness are noticeable blemishes on the film to remind us that this is all "found" footage. Especially grotesque is the body discovered in a drying machine -- sonething we saw in Fangoria but only got a flashing glimpse of in the version released to theaters and later VHS.
All in all, the newly restored "My Bloody Valentine" is an absolutely worthwhile purchase. Even if you've seen the original film -- and hated it like most of us did -- you owe it to yourself to see the uncut film.
